A Nightmare Before Christmas cookie adventure.....a tutorial!

A Nightmare Before Christmas cookie adventure.....a tutorial!

I started with a request for character cookies from the movie Nightmare Before Christmas. I thought I should research and see what images I could find that would represent the movie the best.

I used a piece of paper over my computer screen (my printer was broken) and sketched the pictures. Then I cut them out with a quarter of an inch around each design. I put all the details on the pictures so I would have something to look at while I was detailing the cookies.

I tried a few different techniques to figure out the best way to go about getting the images on to the cookies. I decided it would be so much easier to just sketch them onto the cookies with a pencil and then go over the pencil with black royal icing.

These are obviously not the same cookies but this will show you what I did. :) From here I flooded each area one cookie at a time. It was SO much fun but so much work!

For the Sally cookie I flooded the back ground and her face and neck first. Then I flooded her hair and eyes. I used the wet on wet technique. I thought the cookie looked a little bland with just a black background, so I gave her a spooky little spiderweb back drop. For the spiral walk way cookie with Jack on it, I flooded the black first and then the yellow. That spiral was HARD without a KK. I used a black edible marker to fill in all the details on these cookies except for Jack's smile. Once I finally got them all together they turned out pretty good!
